If you’ve ever glanced at your taskbar and noticed a small ScreenConnect icon, you may have wondered what’s going on behind the scenes. The short answer: your Katy Help Desk team is quietly working to keep your computer running smoothly — and you don’t need to do a thing.

How We Keep Your Systems Healthy Without Interrupting Your Day

At Katy Computer Systems, we use a powerful remote support tool called ScreenConnect to manage and maintain the computers we support. One of its most valuable features is called Backstage Mode — a behind-the-scenes access method that allows our technicians to perform maintenance tasks on your computer without ever seeing your screen or accessing your personal data.

Using Backstage, our Help Desk agents can:

  • Run system diagnostics and health checks
  • Apply software updates and security patches
  • Manage services, processes, and system configurations
  • Investigate and resolve issues before they become problems
  • Verify that your security tools and backups are functioning correctly

Because Backstage Mode operates entirely in the background, we do not notify you when these sessions occur. There is no disruption to your workflow, no pop-up asking for permission, and most importantly — we are never viewing your screen or accessing your files. It’s the digital equivalent of a maintenance crew servicing the HVAC system in your building while you continue working at your desk.

Your Privacy Is Always Protected

We understand that trust is the foundation of any good IT partnership. Backstage Mode was designed with exactly that in mind. Unlike a standard remote session where a technician can see and interact with your desktop, Backstage access is strictly limited to system-level operations. Your open documents, browser windows, emails, and personal data remain completely private.

Our team adheres to strict internal policies governing when and how remote access tools are used. Every session is logged, and access is limited to authorized Katy Computer Systems personnel only.

When You Might See ScreenConnect Switch to Foreground Mode

Occasionally, you may notice that ScreenConnect appears on your screen in a more visible way — this is known as Foreground Mode. This typically happens in one specific situation: when your computer is restarted.

During a reboot, Windows re-initializes all running applications. In some cases, ScreenConnect may briefly surface in the foreground as the system starts back up before returning to its normal background operation. This is expected behavior and is not a cause for concern.

If you ever see ScreenConnect appear on your screen outside of a restart and you were not expecting a support session, feel free to reach out to our Help Desk. We’re always happy to explain what’s happening and confirm the activity on your account.

Proactive Support: Our Commitment to You

The ability to work in Backstage Mode is one of the ways Katy Computer Systems delivers proactive, not just reactive, IT support. Rather than waiting for something to break, our team is continuously monitoring and maintaining your systems in the background — so that problems are caught early, security stays tight, and your business keeps moving forward without interruption.

If you have any questions about how we use ScreenConnect or any of our remote management tools, don’t hesitate to contact us. Transparency is important to us, and we’re always glad to walk you through exactly how we keep your technology working for you.
